IMU-STIMU

NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION: THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Our immune system is one of the most complex systems of the human body. Until recently researchers, scientists and physicians have had little understanding of the structure and function of our immune system. The basic components of our immune system are "the lymphatic system, white blood cells and their specialized groups, and the antibody mechanisms of the specialized organs.

Lymphatic vessels and nodes drain waste products from tissues. They also contain lymphocytes which initiate antibody production in response to the presence of viruses, bacteria and other foreign organisms. Large cells called macrophages in the lymph nodes destroy many bacteria and cellular debris.

The white blood cells contain various groups such as lymphocytes, neutrophils, basophil, eosinophils and monocytes, all having specific functions. Their function is to scavenge the blood for bacteria, viruses and debris.

Factors that can effect our immunity are poor diet, stress, lack of exercise, tobacco and alcohol use, and even some medications. The temperature, pH, and low energy level of your body when you are in a run down state create the perfect environment for viruses and bacteria to flourish. When they proliferate sufficiently our body's immune defenses break down and we develop the physical symptoms of illness. Such illnesses include the common cold, and flu, ranging from herpes to AIDS. Scientists are daily gaining a better understanding of the immune system and what it takes to biochemically aid and support its function. Many of these biochemical components are being found in harmless herbs and botanical extracts which contain, nutrients that are essential in nourishing the glands that regulate the function and detoxification of our immune system.

An herbal combination that is exceptional for stimulating our bodily defenses is:

ECHINACEA AUGUSTIFOLIA

One of the most outstanding herbs for the immune system is Echinacea angustifolia. Studies In Europe and America have shown that the chemical compounds in Echinacea have anti-inflammatory action while stimulating wound healing. Echinacea has also been shown to stimulate of white blood cells, and lymphocytes making it effective against viral and bacterial Infections. Echinacea is effective internally or externally having no side effects:

RED CLOVER

Another extremely effective blood purifier is Red Clover or Trifolium Pretense. Red Clover influences the entire lymphatic system while cleansing the blood stream and toning the lymph nodes. Red Clover is also anesthetic applied locally to wounds promoting healing. The polysaccharides of Red Clover and Echinacea are able to bind to white blood cells which increases interferon production. This enhances T-cell effectiveness in destroying bacteria and viruses.

PROPOLIS

A substance that is not herbal but rather the result of herbal synthesis Is Propolis. Propolis is the anti-viral/anti-bacterial compound made by bees to protect the hive. Studies have shown propolis to have significant antibiotic properties having a marked effect on Strep, Staph, and E. Coll bacteria. Analysis has determined that it contains several flavonoids and trace minerals. Flavonoids are compounds found in plants that protect them from stress. Flavonoids seem to work the same way in our bodies by helping connective tissue heal, preventing free radical damage and inflammation of the tissues. Many dentists are using propolis tincture as an alternative to antibiotics for minor dental surgery finding that propolis has an affinity for the gums and soft tissues of the mouth.
